Upcoming Xbox Exclusive Games – A Microsoft’s Gaming Future for 2025-2027

Update (October 25, 2025): The latest update to Halo: Campaign Evolved was announced by Microsoft and Halo Studios on October 24, 2025. It will be an entirely remade version of the original 2001 game using Unreal Engine 5 (only a single-player campaign), and it will be released in 2026. And it is going to be one of the most expected Xbox exclusive games ever (not so exclusive, though). The remake will be 4K graphics, new voice recordings, updated animation, and a new soundtrack without losing the essence of the classic. It also introduces three new prequel missions with new locations, characters, and play modes.

The game will be cross-platform on Xbox Series XS, PC, and PlayStation 5, and will be included on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on day one. Game Pass Ultimate price hikes also happened with the increase to $30 per month.

You may play alone or with friends, and two-player split-screen co-op on consoles, and four-player online crossplay. The fighting system, the weapons, and the vehicles are enhanced.

Original Post (September 14, 2025):

The generation of Xbox exclusive games developed by Xbox Game Studios for the Series X|S has been a rollercoaster ride. From the peak moments like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to the gloom moments like multiple layoffs/studio shutdowns, we’ve got the wild 2025 ride of Xbox being a rollercoaster of both epic victories and gut-punching defeats. Now, on the edge of a new gaming year of 2026, the famous green brand is set to release a collection of first-party and temporary exclusive titles that may reestablish its industry presence. The YaninaGames team reviews some of the most anticipated upcoming Xbox exclusive games with the release windows from late 2025 to early 2027. Take your controller, we are going to explore the colorful, loud, and exciting world of Xbox first-party games.

The Best Xbox Exclusive Games Coming After September 2025

The following list showcases some of the best Xbox exclusive games developed by first-party studios under the Xbox brand. Some of the release dates may change, while one condition remains the same – all these games will be accessible on the Game Pass Ultimate tier since day one of their release. Also, most of these games will release on other platforms, except Xbox and Microsoft Store on PC – Steam, PlayStation, Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch 2. With such perks in mind, let’s take a look at the upcoming exclusive games on Xbox:

Keeper – October 17, 2025 (Double Fine Productions)

Imagine that you are a walking, talking lighthouse who has a snarky seabird friend and are wandering on a psychedelic island that exists in a fever dream. Double Fine revealed the new oddball adventure called “Keeper” at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025. The trailer featured a broken lighthouse that was cutting itself back together, and its beam was distorting the world in trippy ways. This wordless, third-person puzzle game combines the Psychonauts-esque quirk with the emotional depth of Journey. It is a visual and auditory feast directed by Lee Petty of the Brutal Legend game.

Xbox Exclusive Games

Indie fans who resonate with Journey or Oxenfree, puzzle solvers, and anyone who misses the eccentricity of Double Fine. Unless you do not like interactive art that feels like a game, then this is your ticket.

We should expect the 6-8 hour journey with an environmental narrative and light-based puzzles.

Update: The game has already been released with an 80+ Metacritic rating.

The Outer Worlds 2 – October 29, 2025 (Obsidian Entertainment)

The sequel to the sci-fi RPG made by the legendary studio Obsidian will be released with a bang on October 29, 2025. You will play as an Earth Directorate Agent based in the Arcadia star system to investigate rifts that pose a threat to a corporate-run colony. The Direct showcase for the game featured colorful hubs, glittering weapons, faction-based pandemonium, and a sophisticated system of perks and flaws. There will be a faster pace of dialogue and storylines, a larger and more ambitious world than the 2019 original.

Fallout: New Vegas or the original Outer Worlds fans, or those who like RPGs with snappy writing and player-controllable decisions, should expect this game. If you like impaling corporate greed with a plasma rifle, then this is your thing.

We expect to get 20-30 hours of campaign where the companions have been thoroughly engaged, there are faction clashes and better combat systems.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 – November 14, 2025 (Treyarch, Raven Software)

Thriving on the success of Black Ops 6, Treyarch and Raven Software are releasing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 later in 2025. It is based on a conflict in 2035 between David Mason and Raul Menendez, the voice of Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us). The trailer shown at Xbox Games Showcase 2025 hinted at a very close-to-futuristic atmosphere of cloaking technology, clean weaponry, and otherworldly horror scenes. Anticipate a movie campaign, sweaty co-op, and a Zombies mode that will have you up all night. The project is on track, but Raven is hit with layoffs. CoD fans, competitive shooter enthusiasts, and Zombies enthusiasts are eager to get the fast-moving action and long epic set pieces.

We will definitely get 8-10 hours of campaign, significant multiplayer customization, and a Zombies mode that leans into the weird side of the series.

Ninja Gaiden 4 – October 21, 2025 (Team Ninja, Platinum Games)

In the long-anticipated sequel of the legendary franchise – Ninja Gaiden 4 (a temporary Xbox exclusive game) – the main protagonist Ryu Hayabusa comes back with a new companion, Yakumo. The game reveals the demon-infested Tokyo, boasting of lightning-fast fights, katana-slicing action, and dark magic. The polish of Platinum Games and the punitive foundation of Team Ninja assure a brutal but glitzy action game. Consider Sekiro to be ahead of Devil May Cry. Action game fans may enjoy learning complicated combos and avoiding death. Ninja Gaiden or Bayonetta fans will have a field day with this release.

We expect to get 10-12 hours of campaign, replayable missions, rich combat mechanics, and teased multiplayer.

Update: the game has already been released with great critics and an 85 Metacritic rating.

Fable – 2026 (Playground Games)

Playground Games is making a love letter to Albion with The Fable reboot, with the expected release in 2026. The 2024 pre-alpha footage featured beautiful forests, a sense of mischief (yes, the back of chicken-kicking), and fights against unnatural creatures. The villainous giant that Richard Ayoade plays gives the film star power. Look forward to exploration of the world, moral decision-making, and the wit found in Fable. At the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Phil Spencer confirmed the release window of 2026 and fans are excited. RPG gamers who want something a little lighter and more humorous than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt should expect Fable.

We expect a 20-30 hour exploration game with multiple choices, strong customization, and a responsive world.

Gears of War: E-Day – 2026 (The Coalition)

Gears of War: E-Day returns us to Emergence Day, a bloody beginning of the Locust War. This prequel is based on the Unreal Engine 5 technologies. Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago will be back again. The latest trailer revealed the mixture of a gritty story with chainsaw-gunning. It is likely to have co-op and multiplayer and will release on PS5 after Xbox finishes its period of timed exclusivity. Veterans and newcomers of Gears who are fond of heart-wrenching shooters. There will be lots of chewing to be done by co-op junkies and competitive players.

We expect a 10-12 hour campaign with smooth co-op, an extensive multiplayer package, and graphics that show off the power of the Series X.

Forza Horizon 6 – late 2025 or early 2026 (Turn 10 Studios)

Forza Horizon 6 is definitely coming and soon, taking into account all these Reddit rumors and insider hints. There are rumors of a Tokyo Games Show’s backdrop since we don’t have an official reveal yet. Fans expect for the combination of sim accuracy in Motorsport and the urban cool of Horizon. Even though Turn 10 was struck by layoffs, the project is rumored to have safe and promising cutting-edge looks and a huge car roster. Racing sim nerds that geek out on tire physics can’t wait to play it.

We hope to get a vaster campaign compared to Horizon 5, 20-plus player online races, and a Tokyo-themed open world that blends city streets and picturesque tracks.

Update: the game has been officially confirmed with the expected release in 2026, with Day One release on all consoles and PC. The setting will be related to Japan and Tokyo in particular.

Clockwork Revolution – TBD (inXile Entertainment)

The upcoming steampunk RPG Clockwork Revolution by inXile is a time-travelling adventure game in Avalon. It was announced in 2023 and will be released with more gameplay in 2025, a first-person RPG in which your decisions change history. Imagine Victorian gears in BioShock Infinite. Some previews emphasize responsive narration and insane weapon-making. There is no official release date, but 2026-2027 window seems realistic. Dishonored or Fallout fans who enjoy immersive RPGs with rich mechanics should definitely add this title to their wishlist. In case you like chaos that has a story behind it, watch your eyes.

We expect a 20-40 hour campaign with multiple endings, time-manipulation puzzles, and a lore-rich world.

What Else Do We Expect from Xbox Game Studios in 2025-2027?

The list of upcoming Xbox exclusive games is an appetizer of what is to come for Xbox fans worldwide. Xbox is preparing to have a blockbuster 2026 year, and 2027 will continue the trend:

  • Xbox 25th Anniversary. 2026 will mark 25 years of the Xbox brand, and Phil Spencer has already made it clear that one of the returning classics will be there, along with new titles in the franchises like Fable, Gears, and Forza. Also, Halo fans are hoping that Halo will see a remake or a new sequel by Halo Studios (update – the Halo Campaign Evolved, with a single-player campaign of the original 2001 game, has been officially announced).
  • Game Pass Supremacy. All Xbox first-party games and temporary third-party exclusives will be available on Game Pass the same day, making Xbox the most cost-effective offer for gamers (update – with the price hike up to $30 per Game Pass Ultimate, the offer is not that profitable anymore, keep that in mind). Outer Worlds 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will also be available for other platforms with multiplatform releases on their day one.
  • Play Anywhere. Since Xbox is now going to be called Xbox Everywhere, it will release more games like Gears and Clockwork Revolution on PS5 and potentially on Switch 2. These titles will be available anywhere with the help of cloud gaming.
  • Cloud and Handheld Push. The global expansion of Xbox Cloud Gaming’s features on all devices and the upcoming release of the Asus ROG Xbox Ally handhelds may change the way we play exclusives in 2027.

Which Xbox Exclusive Games Were Cancelled in 2025?

2025 was a gut punch for Xbox fans. Layoffs of up to 9,000 employees by Microsoft also impacted gaming teams, with almost half of the affected teams working on Xbox. The Initiative and some of ZeniMax Online were closed, and a number of projects were killed. Officially, we won’t get these previously announced Xbox exclusive games anytime soon or ever since they had been cancelled:

  • Perfect Dark. The reboot of the classic Xbox title, announced in 2024, was canceled with the closure of The Initiative. The support of Crystal Dynamics was not enough to release the project.
  • Everwild. Rare’s open-world game with the dreamy fantasy setting was rebooted in 2021 but cancelled following layoffs. Fans were also gutted by the departure of Rare’s long-time director, Gregg Mayles.
  • ZeniMax’ New Online MMO. An unannounced MMORPG was abandoned, and the president of ZeniMax, Matt Firor, also left the studio.

Why did these layoffs happen? Microsoft is prioritizing its high-impact titles (Call of Duty, Halo, Gears, Forza, and Fable) at the expense of the riskier projects. This may imply a reduction in the number of experimental games. The Xbox community is still shaken, though, and some of them question the approach of Xbox. Phil Spencer is insisting that Game Pass and strategic growth will lead the industry and the Xbox brand, in particular.

Fortunately, the Outer Worlds 2, Keeper, and Black Ops 7 presented at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 are safe, and the 2026 lineup also appears to be stacked with releases like Fable and Gears: E-Day.

FAQ

Will the upcoming Xbox exclusive games stay only on Xbox consoles?

Nope. Microsoft has changed the policy for its first-party games. Xbox is everywhere these days, meaning that all Xbox Studios games will eventually appear on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. Fable and Forza Motorsport are exclusives on Xbox/PC, though. Keeper, The Outer Worlds 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Ninja Gaiden 4, Gears of War: E-Day, and Clockwork Revolution will be released on PS5 and other platforms the same day as on Xbox and PC (Steam/Microsoft).

Do these games come on Game Pass on their release date?

Absolutely! All the Xbox exclusive games mentioned here release on day one on Game Pass on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Cloud.

What’s up with the 2025 layoffs?

Microsoft laid off close to 9,000 people, and Xbox studios such as The Initiative and Turn 10 had been hit. Perfect Dark, Everwild, and an unknown first-party MMO were canceled.

Is a new Halo game coming anytime soon?

Phil Spencer hinted at a 2026 classic franchise release, and the fans are putting their money on a new Halo game. The multi-project emphasis of Halo Studios indicates the reveal in the near future (update – the Halo Campaign Evolved, with a single-player campaign of the original 2001 game, has been officially announced).

Do all Xbox exclusive games run on Xbox Series S?

Yes, every first- or third-party release on Xbox consoles will work on Series S, with some games potentially performing a bit worse than Series X.

Conclusion

After thorough research, we’ve come to the conclusion that upcoming Xbox exclusive games will keep us entertained up to the launch of a new console in 2027. Xbox games are still gems, especially considering the Xbox Play Anywhere and Day One Game Pass policy. Keeper has its funny side, The Outer Worlds 2 has its sci-fi cool, and Black Ops 7 has its blockbuster. Looking ahead to 2026-2027, Xbox will have Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, and Forza to anchor its 25th anniversary, with Clockwork Revolution set to make a splash.
