Blizzard Introduced the Overwatch 2 Perk System!
Blizzard Entertainment’s hero shooter sequel, Overwatch 2, has gone through quite a few changes since its lukewarm release in 2022. As promised, the YaninaGames team continues to follow the latest changes and updates since we really like playing this game since 2014 for team building. That is why we decided to tell in detail what we should expect from the new Overwatch 2 perk system and loot boxes brought back to the game.
One of the latest updates to hit the esports title is an all-new Hero Perks mechanic, where players will be able to select a Hero Perk each time they level up their chosen character during battle. The Perks system offers players a choice between one of two Hero Perks. These perks slightly change the character’s stats. For example, Orisa can charge up her Javelin to pierce foes, and Torbjorn can upgrade his Turret to Level 3 for five seconds each time he uses his Overload ability.
With the introduction of the Overwatch 2 Hero Perks system, players will also have to pay attention to Hero balance updates in official patch notes. In our previous post highlighting the changes from Seasons 12 through 14, we highlighted Hero balances like Doomfist’s wall slam mechanics and Hanzo’s Dragonstrike team kill fix.

Blizzard has quickly announced that the new Perks mechanic will be added into the newly established Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS). Blizzard’s lead for the OWCS, Bailey McCann, noted that Perks gameplay will be featured during EMEA’s and North America’s OWCS Stage 1 Regular Season match.
In terms of affecting professional esports play at the OWCS, Overwatch players and coaches will have to consider how the Hero gameplay changes will influence team compositions and hero bands for enemy teams depending on the map. As such, teams and coaches that can quickly figure out the new Overwatch 2 Perks system and find counters to specific Heroes and compositions will be able to come out on top for the ongoing 2025 OWCS season.

Over the years, various Overwatch esports professionals etched their names in esports history through heroic plays and top-notch mechanical skills. Some of the highest-paid Overwatch players today include South Korea’s Viol2t ($651,349) and retired player xQc, who went on to pursue a streaming career on Twitch, making approximately $318,000 monthly.

Overwatch eSports Betting After New Changes
Of course, another similarity between Overwatch esports and traditional sports is its betting culture. Nowadays, eSports betting has become a lucrative market for esports enthusiasts, fans, and players who want to test their gameplay knowledge and make money from their beloved eSports.
The fans betting on Overwatch will have to pay attention to new gameplay features like the Hero Perks update. We’ve Got Loot Boxes in Overwatch 2 Again!
The minds of Overwatch enthusiasts gravitated toward loot box gambling since they were banned and removed from the first game. Despite the controversial nature, the “loot box” system exists as a standard game element found in multiple modern online video games to deliver random gameplay objects.
For example, loot boxes in Overwatch 2 deliver random cosmetic items ranging from skins to emotes, voice lines, and sprays. Loot boxes in Overwatch 2 can be accessed without charge through the free battle pass system and periodic rewards that the game provides to all players. Playing the game maximally enables players to acquire loot boxes without additional costs.
However, loot boxes in the original Overwatch game were much closer to gambling, as players could also pay for them aside from earning them by playing. Prices ranged from $1.99 for two Loot Boxes to $39.99 for 50 Loot Boxes, without any guarantee that they would receive the in-game item they want. In other video game genres, the “loot box” system is also referred to as “gacha” (think of Genshin Impact), named after Japanese vending-like “gachapon” machines.

As such, Overwatch fans who enjoy gambling can also satisfy their urges through the new free loot boxes in Overwatch 2. As long as they can stay ahead of new gameplay mechanics like Hero Perks to help gain XP and level up through the battle pass.
