What Will GTA 6 Mini Games Look Like?

The Grand Prospects for GTA 6 Mini Games

It has been 450+ days since the release of GTA 6’s first trailer, and the gaming community still can’t stop buzzing about it. Fans discuss everything – from the major plot twists to the smallest details. Out of all the titles and genres set for release, Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 is quite possibly the most highly anticipated title of all time. In fact, GTA 6’s trailer made it into Guinness World Records as the most viewed video game revealed on YouTube in 24 hours, with 90,421,491 views. At the moment of writing, this number is already over 240 million views! Impressive results. That is why the YaninaGames team decided to explore and fantasize about the possible GTA 6 mini games that we can see after the release.

The short trailer is the first look at the much-awaited sequel following GTA 5’s release twelve years ago. Due to the large gap, the game’s trailer demonstrated huge leaps in graphics from its predecessor, including improved character models, lighting effects, and intricate settings. Previously, we highlighted how well-animated games like Red Dead Redemption 2 — Rockstar’s other beloved video game franchise — rely on various graphical assets and digital technologies to create immersive, open-world settings for players to enjoy for hundreds and thousands of hours. Based on the rumors about GTA 6’s budget, Rockstar is spending roughly $2 billion on the game’s development.

For reference, GTA 5’s budget for production and marketing twelve years ago was estimated at $265 million, making it the most expensive video game production at the time. Rockstar Games is looking to repeat this success, and if the $8.5 billion revenue for GTA 5 is any indication, GTA 6 is looking to be just as successful.

Considering the time and resources it’s taking for GTA 6’s long-awaited release, fans have spent the past few years speculating what the game will end up looking like. In addition to serious graphical and engine upgrades, fans are also expecting various new and old content to populate the game’s rich, open-world setting. This includes, of course, mini games.

GTA 6 Mini Games Related to Casino Will Probably Come Back!

One of the most in-demand kinds of mini games for GTA 6, of course, is casino-based games. Through the years, the GTA games — along with Rockstar’s other darling, Red Dead Redemption — have consistently incorporated casino mini games in their gameplay. Some of these are story-based, while others are optional for casino enthusiasts seeking virtual avenues. Check how the casino mini games – and GTA San Andreas roulette in particular – worked in previous GTA games.

Yes, all the way back in 2004’s GTA: San Andreas, players were able to enjoy a variety of casino mini games in GTA 6, including blackjack, roulette, video poker, Wheel of Fortune, and slots. Players could also work on upgrading protagonist CJ’s gambling skill, from Gambler to Whale.

Rockstar Games’ commitment to improving on GTA 5’s gameplay and implementing upgrades and experiences from 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2 may mean richer casino experiences. Combined with the popularity of online and multiplayer play in GTA 5, the new game could provide more in-depth casino gameplay modeled after real-life casinos and providers, such as poker tournaments.

This wouldn’t be a new concept, as the now-defunct Xbox game Full House Poker, released in 2011, previously achieved this by allowing online gameplay in cartoonish, TV-style live poker events. The title it also offered scheduled tournaments known as Texas Heat on top of season-long tournaments. Sadly, Full House Poker was one of many Xbox exclusives taken down by Microsoft in 2023 due to the closure of the Xbox 360 Marketplace. It would be interesting to see this format in the ultra-realistic style and graphics Rockstar Games has perfected over the years.

Rockstar Games could also take inspiration from the leading US poker providers. Pioneers ACR Poker offers high-stakes online poker tournaments for players across all skill levels. These include the site’s well-known Venom poker tournaments and satellite tournaments like the Beast Tourneys, which offer players a chance to compete in the $500,000 GTD Main Event and potentially make it big.

Since the GTA games tend to follow the trajectory of small-time criminals making their way up the crime ladder, an in-game casino or poker tournament structure can align well with the story’s flow. Considering the popularity of online casinos nowadays, it will be interesting to see GTA 6 incorporate realistic online and offline casino experiences to boost immersion for players seeking high-stakes excitement without wanting to risk real money.

Non-Casino GTA 6 Mini Games We’d Like to See!

Of course, for players who may not understand casino games or want more casual entertainment without losing in-game money, the Grand Theft Auto games have never shied away from non-casino mini games. In GTA 5, players could spend their time doing various pastimes like golf, tennis, hunting, and darts.

Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 had mini games like fishing and the tense knife game known as five-finger fillet. Fans have already speculated that GTA 6, set in a fictionalized version of Miami, will have more wildlife content that can make way for mini games like hunting and fishing.

Also, the closest rumors we’ve had about the GTA 6 mini games point to the potential return of basketball — a mini game players haven’t seen since San Andreas in 2004. A YouTuber has claimed that a basketball mini game “was worked on at the Toronto studio”, although it “was on the chopping block at the end of 2023”. The leaker has also reiterated that his insider information may not necessarily make it into the final product.

Considering how long it has taken Rockstar Games to develop and even announce GTA 6, various changes and additions have understandably been made to the game. Fans and gamers on Reddit and throughout the Internet have gone back and forth, speculating what mini games would fit the Miami-set game. Suggestions and hopeful wishes thus far include mini golf, volleyball, and even metal detecting on beaches.

Previous leaks have hinted that the game’s story missions may be inspired by the Fast & Furious movies. If this turns out true, perhaps another type of mini game that fans can see in GTA 6 is racing. Races are a popular activity and multiplayer mode in GTA 5’s online lobbies, and not being able to enjoy Vice City’s night lights while street racing in GTA 6 would be a missed opportunity.

We hope that these suggestions will at least partially come true with the release of GTA 6. In the upcoming weeks, the YaninaGames will continue to follow the news and leaks to prove our theories and fantasies about GTA 6 mini games. By the way, if you want to hire or collaborate with our team of devoted game developers, we are always open to your suggestions.
