Is Ashes of Creation A Bold New Dawn for MMORPG?
Update 2.0. (December 30, 2025): Alpha 2 Phase 3 Progress and New Features – Intrepid Studios’ official site and recent dev streams (e.g., December 2025 newsletter on ashesofcreation.com) confirm Alpha 2 Phase 3 launched August 26, 2025, with Shol (US East) and Lotharia (EU West) servers. Key unmentioned additions to Ashes of Creation include naval combat with player-built ships, the Rogue archetype (fully integrated), expanded regions like the Riverlands, and the Ashes Codex lore book. Freeholds (player housing) testing expanded in late November, alongside siege warfare refinements and dynamic world events. No shift to Beta 1 yet-Phase 3 runs into Q1 2026, focusing on economy balancing and PvP polish.
Latest roadmap (updated Dec 15, 2025, via newsletter and YouTube dev update) targets Beta 1 in mid-2026, with full launch still late 2026-early 2027. Also, cosmetic-only cash shop confirmed, subscription at $14.99/month post-launch (Alpha access via $125+ pledges). Apocalypse prequel has remained canceled since 2021.
Update (October 25, 2025): Intrepid Studios continues to make Ashes of Creation, and they are still in Alpha Two testing. The final stage of Alpha Two – called Phase Three – began on August 26, 2025. It is currently online and it introduces two new servers, Shol in US East and Lotharia in EU West. During this stage, the game introduces a significant number of things, like ships, a new Rogue class, new regions in the world, and a new book of stories with the Ashes Codex. The game still features a special Node System giving an option to modify towns, trade locations, and battlefields within the world of Verra. The game has not officially been launched yet, but may be released in late 2026 to early 2027, following beta testing in 2026.
The studio will require players to pay a monthly subscription fee and ensure that the game will not include pay-to-win. There are still numerous classes of various types in the game, and the economy controlled by the player continues to be enhanced. The battle system is also improving. The game is currently available on PC in Alpha testing, and there is no assurance that it will ever be released on consoles. Players are thrilled, and the developers state that the game remains rough in certain aspects and requires more polishing and new content before the final launch.
Also, it seems that the Ashes of Creation Apocalypse prequel has been cancelled for good.
Original Post (April 20, 2025):
For many years, players have chased the magic of classic World of Warcraft, EverQuest and Lineage. They have grown into professional game developers and started to implement their dreams into reality. Luckily, we receive titles such as Ashes of Creation, which old-school MMORPG inspires.
This passionate project from Intrepid Studio is currently in the Alpha 2 stage with an equal share of excitement and skepticism among MMORPG fans. They have already gathered an impressive fan community on Discord, Reddit, and Steam, along with multiple game streamers revealing their impressions. Our team has also managed to play the game in its early phase. And now we are ready to share our thoughts about it. The game looks very ambitious but still unfinished, which is understandable.
Ashes of Creation’s Verra – a World That Breathes with You
According to the latest Ashes of Creation Discord news, the vast world of Verra is going to offer an impressive setting with an interactive map and unpredictable NPC spawns. Verra would be very dynamic without the littered quest hubs. Instead, the developers offer the Node System to make the Ashes of Creation interactive map change along with the player’s experience and progress.

Nodes are specific points across the vast map –villages, outposts, and ruins – which grow or shrink based on the player’s actions and nearby allies or NPCs. Kill monsters, loot resources, and finish quests in the area to see how the node levels up. Small villages can turn into bustling towns and even large cities. Ignore the problems of the node, and it will quickly turn into a ghost town.
If you check the Ashes of Creation official website and unbiased gamer previews, you will see such main features promoted by the devs:
- Verra consists of 85 nodes embracing economic, military, scientific, or divine options in the world. Nodes receive the upgrade levels along with complex quests with NPCs and buildings where players can reside. Each Verra node can enter state warfare. The fight between 100 teams exists in battles to take control of node resources and relics. This system is nothing like you’ve seen before in recent or upcoming MMO games like Legend of Ymir, for example.
- The Ashes of Creation map is enormous— the devs promise 480 km² of the untamed wilderness, high mountains, and mist-covered forests. There’s no fast travel in Alpha 2. For now, crossing the map feels like a tough expedition. Players love to compare the game to Dungeons & Dragons. The basic activities are packing supplies, building a party, and praying you don’t get ambushed by PvP-hungry rogues.
- Verra’s backstory is rich. It is centered on the ancient apocalypse that forced its races to flee through magical portals. Humans, elves, orcs, dwarves, and the subterranean Tulnar return to reclaim their land. The Ashes of Creation Codex teases epic tales of gods, betrayal, and lost civilizations, but in Alpha 2 the quests are pretty much basic and non-inspiring.
- The Ashes of Creation gameplay is about delivering the PvX game – the player will face both NPCs and other real players in the wild. The open-world PvP is thrilling but balanced with systems that may bring certain limitations. Node Sieges, where communities battle for control, are a highlight, with recent 100-versus-100 fights showcasing the game’s potential for epic warfare.
- The Verra’s crafting system is about mining ore, chopping trees, or picking flowers to create weapons, potions, or even mounts.
The latest Ashes of Creation video previews reveal that such an ambitious project still needs a lot of time for development, testing, and polishing. The Alpha 2 stage shows how much work they need to do before the final launch. Some zones are empty, with bugged spawns and sluggish exploration mechanics. Give them some time and believe in their creative minds – the team needs your support for sure!

Exploring Ashes of Creation Classes
Any MMORPG can’t do without a solid class system. Think about Baldur’s Gate 3 at this point. Ashes of Creation is not an exception either. Though the classic MMORPG archetypes look both familiar and fresh. During Alpha 2 the fans could play for one of six classes – Bard, Cleric, Fighter, Mage, Tank, and Ranger. Two more classes – Summoner and Rogue – are promised to appear later in the game. We’ve already seen the Rogue class’ glimpse during their Public Test Realm in February 2025 (update – a new class Rogue has been added during the Alpha Two Phase Three stage).
At level 25, all the players could pick a secondary archetype to create hybrid classes like Shadowmancer (Summoner + Cleric) or Spellblade (Fighter + Mage). 64 different combos are promised to be explored. This means that the game will have endless build-crafting potential.
Players can expect both data-targeting skills and manual combos of skills to work together and enhance team interactions during gameplay in Ashes of Creation. The successful freezing ability of Mages enables Fighters to connect their ground slam attacks against frozen enemies for additional damage. Alpha 2 has not fully optimized these combos, but they suggest that class interplay will create electrifying interactions in the upcoming client update.

Tanks and Bards are the most popular choices among viewers of Ashes of Creation Gameplay streams. Newbie players retain want to occupy the frontline positions thanks to the satisfaction tanks provide, but Bards stand out with their musical support skills.
Check the following table to understand better the system of Ashes of Creation classes and archetypes.
| Archetype/Class | Playstyle | Key Features |
| Bard | Support with a musical twist | Shields, heals, and buffs the allies with songs. Debuffs the enemies with discordant notes |
| Cleric | Healer with some power | Can restore health points, cast protective barriers, and smite foes with holy spells |
| Fighter | Melee brawler | Slashes and slams with swords/axes, perfecting in close-quarter chaos |
| Mage | Ranged spell-slinger | Hurls lightning, freezes enemies, and summons fiery meteors. Fragile but devastating |
| Ranger | Agile sharpshooter | Fires quick arrows and weaves through the combat by setting traps for crowd control |
| Tank | Damage-soaking anchor of the team | Haunts the enemies to absorb their hits and protect the allies with powerful stuns/shields |

Ashes of Creation Release Date – When to Expect the Launch? (Updated)
Any news about the Ashes of Creation release date is elusive. The Ashes of Creation Alpha 2 release date happened in October 2024 and is set to run until June 2025, while the Intrepid is testing the core mechanics and has received international feedback. The Alpha 2 release is a huge milestone, but the game is obviously still years from the full launch (update – the expected release is now somewhere in late 2026 or early 2027, because there is still the phase of alpha testing, with the beta testing set for 2026).
Most fans estimate the release window for Ashes of Creation on PC in 2027-2028 (update – turned out to be more realistic). Intrepid’s Creative Director, Steven Sharif, has announced that they won’t rush things, especially after raising about $3 million during their official Ashes of Creation Kickstarter campaign.
Will Ashes of Creation come to consoles? There’s no official word on an Ashes of Creation PS5 or Xbox Series version, but Intrepid hasn’t denied such a possibility as well. For now, they purely focus on PC closed testing and do not want to promise anything for console fans.

FAQ
What is Ashes of Creation Apocalypse?
The Apocalypse used to be a free-to-play, competitive, and cooperative multiplayer game that served as a prequel to the upcoming Ashes of Creation. This prequel was focused on arena-based battles and a few PvE and PvP combats – Battle Royale, Castle Siege, and Horde, where 100 players were pitted against one another or AI foes. There were weekly challenges and daily quests with progress and items coming to the main MMORPG. Also, we’ve received a glimpse of the vast world of Verra that is expected to be huge in Ashes of Creation (update – currently the team has no plans to release Ashes of Creation Apocalypse).
Is Ashes of Creation solo-friendly?
Yes, it is possible, but prepare for a challenge. Solo players can explore, perform quests, and craft, but some activities as Node Sieges and world bosses, were made for group play. Grinding is required both for solo and group.
Can you get married in Ashes of Creation?
The team has not yet confirmed this information. While marriage systems are quite popular in some MMOs, Intrepid Studios doesn’t give any details. The Ashes of Creation Alpha 2 version mainly focuses on core mechanics but the community speculations on Reddit suggest the appearance of social features, like weeding and dating. The lore will be a lot about the heavily player-driven stories.

Is Ashes of Creation going to be P2W?
The team behind Intrepid Studios has promised to avoid any pay-to-win elements. The game is going to have a subscription model with fair prices for cosmetics and microtransactions. The feedback from the testers of Alpha 2 and developer streams emphasizes their monetization.
Is Ashes of Creation pay-to-play?
The monthly subscription will start from $14,99 at the launch of the game without the upfront purchase price. However, to access the Alpha 2, a player has to buy into the sport for $120. This monetization system aligns the game with traditional MMOs like World of Warcraft (update – the developer team is still going to implement this monetization system).
What are Ashes of Creation platforms?
Right now, you can find the official Ashes of Creation download file only for PC, at least at the stage of Alpha 2. For now, there is no any announcement of this game on PS5. Intrepid hasn’t spilled the beans about their plans. The current system requirements for Windows are quite demanding, with the lowest tier demanding the recent hardware for optimal performance.
